At San Diego Comic-Con 2019, Feige teased the development of an MCU Fantastic Four movie, and now the project has been confirmed. When that series stalled out, Fox tried again in 2015 with Josh Trank's infamous Fantastic Four, which was a critical and financial flop. It was enough of a hit for the cast to return in 2007 for the sequel, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. While Fox still held the rights, 2005's Fantastic Four introduced audiences to a somewhat goofy take on the titular team. However, since Marvel Studios wasn't able to begin developing a film until the deal was officially closed, there's been little movement on an MCU movie. The Fantastic Four rights were regained by Marvel Studios last year with the finalization of the deal for Disney to acquire Fox's movie and TV assets. For many years, the film rights for Marvel's First Family belonged to 20th Century Fox, with the studio launching two separate live-action film franchises based on the Marvel Comics characters. Marvel Studios' Fantastic Four movie is officially confirmed by Kevin Feige with Spider-Man: Homecoming director Jon Watts to helm.
